PD: Making it Work for teachers

This 1 day professional development training is specially designed for early and primary school teachers. It is enclosed with ABA principles and is APST-aligned. It builds your capacity to teach students with autism or other disability. You will be supported and trained to better understanding of why challenging behaviours occur and how to respond to them. Upon completion of Making it Work in the Classroom you will receive 6-PD points that count toward your annual registration.

Following a structured approach for PD of teachers:

  • Needs Assessment: Conduct a thorough needs assessment to understand the specific challenges teachers face. This can include surveys, interviews with teachers, and observations in classrooms.

  • Tailored Content: Develop PD content that is tailored to the unique needs of teaching children with autism or disabilities. Focus on strategies for creating inclusive learning environments, managing behavior effectively, and adapting curriculum and teaching methods.

  • Hands-on Strategies: Provide practical, hands-on strategies that teachers can implement immediately. This could include role-playing scenarios, case studies, and demonstrations of effective teaching techniques.

  • Collaborative Learning: Encourage collaborative learning among teachers. Peer support and sharing of experiences can be invaluable. Consider establishing communities of practice where teachers can regularly exchange ideas and support each other.
